Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency, and more specifically the "energy efficiency first" principle, is an important element of the European and Luxembourgish energy strategy, as it contributes to the definitive decoupling of economic development and energy consumption.

The REGULATION (EU) 2018/1999 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 11 December 2018 on the governance of the Energy Union and climate action defines the "energy efficiency first" principle. This means that alternative cost-effective energy efficiency measures to make energy supply and demand more efficient must be taken into account in energy planning. . This applies in particular to cost-effective end-use energy savings or more efficient energy transmission and distribution.

The energy transition involves the development of an intelligent and therefore more energy-efficient building stock, as well as the implementation of intelligent energy networks, which will make it possible to improve the efficiency of energy distribution, in particular by decentralizing production and developing storage.

In this context, it is imperative to make Luxembourg one of the most efficient countries in terms of energy consumption. This is the only way to reconcile, on the one hand, the strong dynamics of our economy and, on the other hand, our endogenous renewable resources, which are certainly present but nevertheless limited.
